After a long period of two weeks without European Football gracing our Television screens and Radio’s through live Commentary, the games have finally resumed with a round of eyecatching fixtures being already played in the weekend, a wonderful series of matches where we saw different teams turn up and give their absolute best in the field despite lacking the 12th man. Their commitment and desire would in-return be rewarded as they would go ahead to register good results after seeing through their individual games.
As we match onto another seven day period, Football lovers will be welcoming it filled with so much optism and baited breaths, as it is yet another match week that everyone can look out for, one packed with awesome ties, clashes expected to forever remain in our thoughts as big teams will be squaring it out in their individual leagues and even European competitions, sides which will surely look forward to putting some honour on their names and defending their egos.
One side which would be looking out to bringing more glory to the club and even more trophies in their Cabinet is Real Madrid, an outfit that is rich in history with years of dorminance not only in its domestic league, but has also earned its spot as one of the Footballing giants in Europe and are currently ranked third best in the Uefa Club rankings behind Bayern munich and Arch rivals barcelona.
Since its establishment in 1902, Real have risen up to be an undisputed and unstoppable force domestically as they now hold the record for most Laliga titles with 34 and have even extended their superiority into Europe where they are now lead record holders, being crowned 13 times in the Uefa Champions league competition and are the second club to win the title three times in a row after bayern. This feat being achieved in the years running from 2016-2018 where they would do so under Zinedine zidane who was a former Real player and now Headcoach of the senior team.
Since then Real madrid have failed to lay their hands on another Champions league title, with their most recent success coming in last seasons controversial Spanish La Liga title, where Referee and Var decisions would help them beat Barcelona to their 34th title. Without doubt Zinedine’s side will be entering a tough and testing 11 day period which would determine this seasons fate for the Los blancos.
The Champions League Quater Finals.
Real madrid vs Liverpool. A similar fixture though different stage that takes us back to the 2018 Champions league final which was held in the NSC Olimpiyskiy stadium in Kyiv.
This is where we would pay testament to one of the most thrilling finals to ever be held in Europe’s premier club competition history since its inception, the match would start of on a good note for Liverpool as they would bravely take on the Spanish Giants with displays of accurate passes, good counter attacks and attacks from build up plays, while maintaining a fair share of possession.
Unfortunately tables would turn on them when 30 minutes into the encounter the in-form Liverpool and Egyptian forward Moh salah would be taken off the pitch after suffering a shoulder dislocation from a challenge on him by legendary center back Sergio Ramos, a move that would later cost the reds as they would end up being 3-1 losers in the night all goals coming in the second half, the first would come about after a howler by Loris Karius set up Karim Benzema who opened the scores, afterwards Sadio Mane stepped up Coming with the equalising goal that seemed to have cooled Liverpool’s storm, this was until Gareth bale would then be introduced as a second half substitute and going on to ensure that the prestigious trophy would not get a change of hands after he scored a brace in the game, his first goal coming from a spectacular Bicycle kick in the 67th minute and the second from a Free kick that was mishandled by the Liverpool keeper.
With this sides Meeting again in today’s highlight Match, everyone would expect Liverpool to go out and seek Revenge against the Spanish side, with Real Madrid also looking foward to the opportunity of stretching their record much futher as they would be targeting qualification for the tournaments semi-finals and maybe the finals that could see them secure their fourteenth Uefa Champions league title, with a good result in this tie they would surely place themselves in a safer position when they would be traveling to Anfield for their second league tie in Merseyside.
With the race to clinching the La liga title getting even more interesting after leaders Athletico Madrid recently dropped more points. This coming after Diego simeones side suffered a 1-0 loss to Sevilla who currently sit fourth in a tightly contested match.
All eyes will now be on 2nd placed Barcelona who are only separated by a single point from the league leaders and Real madrid who are third ,three points behind their neighbors Athletico and two points from second spot.
The second and third placed sides in the league would face out in the weekend in one of the most thrilling derbies in Spanish football history, one which over the years has famously been known as ‘el classico’ .
The match can be described as ‘make or break’ for the two whose seasons have not gone well domestically with both missing out on the Spanish supercup and the “Copa del rey” , titles that have recently found new holders who are Athletic club and Real sociedad respectively.
A win from either side will prove decisive in their quest for yet another league title and would see off a rather bad season on a much positive note.
On whether any of the two sides will manage to displace Athletico madrid from top spot, Keeping in mind they have been leading the rankings for almost half the season, it is just a question of when with only few games left before we know the answer, the main question rather remains if Real madrid will gain enough courage and morale that would help see out their next round of games in an encouraging fashion.
