Seventeen years ago we had a caretaker committee running football activities in Kenya. Today, the government through CS Amina Mohammed has done it again after long overdue waiting for football glory returned to stakeholders. Unexpected came out when the cabinet secretary Amina Mohammed was scheduled to appear before the senate sports committee today 10am. The report got from Nairobi County Football Association officials who attended today’s meeting which was adjourned only 10 minutes later after the CS temporarily was out of the meeting. The efforts of reaching her virtually also were in futile. Senator Johnson Sakaja for Nairobi County who is the chairman of the committee adjourned the meeting after confirming that the CS was unable to log in. Whoever late yesterday madam Amina Mohammed had written a letter requesting the committee to postpone the meeting till next week since she was receiving the report from the sports registrar madam Rose Wasike at the same time. Few minutes after adjournment, FKF rushed to high court to seek court orders to stop CS Amina Mohammed from giving directives on the inspection, unfortunately they were late. Kandanda house is now being manned by heavy policemen and we are expecting arrests of FKF officials anytime from now.
Those who were in attendance today at the senate on behalf of Nairobi County Football Association for the chairman Charles Njoroge, Secretary General Wilfred Marori, Westlands sub county chairman Itotia Karanja, Secretary Isaac Sebhi and Michael Esakwa on behalf of National County Football Associations. County football associations have now full mandates to run football at County levels in accordance with sports act as the caretaker committee tasked to conduct elections in accordance with the act and sports Registrar’s regulation act 2016. Already 8 counties namely: Uasin Gishu, Mombasa, Nandi, Mandela, Nairobi, TransNzioa, Taita Taveta and Vihiga who have will wait for national elections since they followed the laid structures in their county elections.
The 33 counties registered under sports act 2013 has congratulated madam Amina Mohammed and they have welcomed the decision, saying they’ll comply with the laws and work in harmony with the national caretaker committee as per the directions.
